“Growth” was the mantra at this year’s InformationWeek 500 conference , which wrapped up last night in beautiful Dana Point. We are honored and humbled to be ranked 75, moving up from 151 last year, and number six among the 50 IT companies.
Congrats to Karl Salnoske (GXS CIO) and the entire Service Delivery team at GXS!
Check out a recent podcast interview with Karl Salnoske, where he covers the advantages of being a former customer of GXS and his approach to transforming large, global IT teams.
Here are some highlights:
“GXS is all about helping companies integrate their trading communities and supply chains.”
“[While CIO at Schering-Plough] there were really only two things that I would get called in the middle of the night for. One was if our e-mail system was down. And the other was if our SAP EDI services were down, because it meant orders weren’t flowing and shipments weren’t going out, and therefore we weren’t making any money.”
“One of the things that I initiated when I got here was, whenever we host a customer visit here now at our headquarters facility, I’ll try to convince who’s ever visiting to do a lunch-and-learn with my team. Where they just come in and talk about their business, not so much our role in it, but just so my people begin to understand what our customers do, why what we do is important to their business and what the implications are if things don’t work, so that we can respond with the right level of urgency.”
“The key to any [IT] transformation is, first of all, communication, and making sure that people understand and see the vision of where you’re trying to get to, and that there are measurable metrics that you can use along the way to measure your progress against that vision.”
